DescriptionBill Harrop's "Original" Balloon Safaris is a family business run by Bill and Mary Harrop that has been operating as a Legally Licensed Balloon Air Transport Service since 1981. We run a fleet of six large balloons that can carry between six and eighteen passengers each. A minimum of 2 passengers is required to justify a flight departure (but these can be from 2 individual sources. We can fly up to 142 passengers in one morning. On a typical balloon safari we can either meet you, just as the sun is rising at our Skeerpoort Balloon Field in the Magalies River Valley (about 70kms north-west of Johannesburg or about 50kms from Sandton) or collect you from your hotel. Hot tea, coffee and biscuits are served whilst you watch the crew prepare the huge colourful balloons for flight in the calm, stable morning air. Once the balloons are ready, the passengers are invited to climb aboard and the pilot gives them a short safety briefing prior to take off. Champagne is served as the passengers enjoy what some describe as "the closest thing to heaven known to man." After landing, which can be most fun of all, their ground crew who have been following in retrieve vehicles below will collect the passengers and drive them back to our beautiful country base where our catering staff have prepared a freshly cooked, delectable champagne breakfast.
