Laze in the sun next to the pool, read a book from the library, enjoy the tranquility under the big blue gum trees or enjoy a game of tennis. Explore the farm on foot or horseback for an exhilarating experience. Meaning " I Dream" in Sotho, our 4 star garden rooms are all individually themed and decorated by Marie. Each boast a private patio, open fireplace, en-suite bathroom, heater, television and tea and coffee facilities. Some have underfloor heating and spa bath as an added luxury. After a leisurely meal snuggle up under fluffy goose down duvet and mohair blanket. For the romantically inclined there are a variety of choices , each unique with some welcome extras. AttractionsBird watching - Judge Howie compiled a bird list numbering 116 species at De Oude Kraal during his tenure as judge of the Appeals Court. We are privileged to have Black headed herons making nests in our blue gum trees every summer. You will hear them making noises as they build their nests and hatch their little ones. Hiking Trials - The extensive 2400 Ha farm has a variety of hiking trails available. You can stroll to your hearts content, and if you were to climb up one of the numerous 'koppies' on the farm, be able to see for kilometers and kilometers over a quilt of farmlands.You are welcome to bring along your own walking stick or borrow one from reception. Someone is always at hand with friendly advice. For the amateur archeologist evidence of pre-'Groot Trek' graves can be found as well as remnants of a few Koi tribe kraal shelters scattered across the farm. Get to know the varied flaura of the Free State veld. Binoculars are a welcome addition when spotting some game in the distance. Horse Riding -
Explore the Free State by horseback. Our horses are very gentle and ideal for riders from novice to advanced. Booking is essential four-4 hours in advance as the horses are free roaming. Guides available. R50-00PP per hour. Swimming pool - (Included for overnight guests).Our swimming pool is located in the gardens, and a perfect spot to soak up some sun and work on a golden tan. Borrow a book from the library or drink a refreshing cocktail from the bar. Sundowner drive - Our sundowner drive departs every afternoon. (Included for overnight guests) You can experience the typical Southern Free State grass fields, red grass, small “koppies”,fresh air and spectacular sunsets. Be on the lookout for tortoises, meerkat, eland, blesbuck, springbuck and black wildebeest. De Oude Kraal’s wild olive trees are very rare and the only of its kind in the Free State.
